Transition Symptoms: Switching abruptly to a raw food diet may cause headaches, nausea, or depression. Consuming large amounts of fiber can lead to bloating or stomach cramps.

Mineral Absorption Issues: Excessive fiber intake may interfere with the absorption of essential minerals like iron, zinc, and magnesium.

Digestive Challenges: People who struggle with carbohydrate digestion may find this diet difficult to tolerate. Pregnant women, children, elderly individuals with osteoporosis, and those suffering from anemia should consult their doctor before starting this regimen.

Cost: Maintaining this diet over an extended period can be expensive due to the need for fresh ingredients. Additionally, specialized kitchen equipment such as juicers or blenders may be necessary.

Is Raw Food Truly Better?

Advocates believe that cooking destroys vital enzymes in food that supply nutrients to the body. From this perspective, consuming raw foods preserves these enzymes and extends life expectancy. Critics counter that certain nutrients actually increase during cooking; for example, lycopene—a powerful antioxidant—is more bioavailable in cooked tomatoes than in their raw form.

Ultimately, whether raw food is inherently superior remains debatable. Questions also arise about how healthy Paleolithic humans truly were despite their uncooked diets.
